For his two-month birthday... Ronan went to the doctor and got shots! (errr... fun).
We love our pediatrician, Dr. Langston, at CPMC. He's so kind and warm, and has an easy-going, holistic approach to baby's health. He and the nurse gave Ronan two shots in each meaty thigh today. Ronan turned bright red and screamed his heart out. I felt so bad! But after 5 minutes of crying, he fell fast asleep. The shots were:
Diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine
Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine (for meningitis)
Inactivated poliovirus vaccine (for polio)
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (for bacterial meningitis)
Great news: Ronan's rash is gone. Guess it was heat rash... It lasted from age 3 weeks to 6 weeks and then, seemingly overnight, it cleared up!
Ronan's two-month vitals:
Weight: 13 lbs, 2 oz (90th %)
Height: 24 in (90th %)
He keeps getting longer and longer. Pretty soon he'll outgrow his current carseat and stroller, and we thought they would last him 6 months!
Ronan's new favorite activities:
1) Smiling, laughing, and "baby talk." His laugh sounds like a mix between a cough and a squeak, and it sometimes surprises him!
2) Staying awake... ALL... DAY. Which means Mom is awake... all... day... He's Mr. Alert and Mr. I Hate Naps. We have to force him to take morning and afternoon naps (an arduous task that takes at least 20 minutes...), because if we don't, we face the Wrath of Ronan. And trust us, you don't want to see that! The upside is he's always ready to play, ready to look at things (especially windows!), and ready to eat. And, uh, ready to get overstimulated and CRY.
3) Playing on his Gymini. This is a quilted brightly colored playmat with toys hanging down. It used to scare him, but now he loves it! He's transfixed by the stuffed seahorse that plays music... and mesmerized by the mirror (he loves checking himself out).
4) Getting completely distracted while nursing. When he's not stretching his back and arms while eating, he's twisting his head this way and that to look at different things. Keeps Mom on her toes.
5) Gymboree! Ronan went to his first class this week and had a blast! What could be more fun than 45 minutes of singing, playing, and baby massage? Our guy was the youngest one there, but was bigger than the 4-month-olds. He even stayed on his tummy for about 10 minutes before crying -- Go, Ronan!
6) Kicking. This isn't new. He was a kicker in the womb and it's only gotten stronger now that he's on the outside. He gets blissed out staring at colorful objects and kicks constantly to his heart's delight. I think that's why his thighs look like meaty turkey thighs. And, like a horse, it's dangerous to stand in the way of those legs.... (they can hurt!)
7) Sucking his right fingers while scraping his scalp with his left. What a coordinated guy, except now his scalp is all red and flaky! I'm tempted to stick a mitt on his left hand!
