Ronan the Penguin

Ro's penguin face

Babies are so cute precisely because to them everything is new and fun. They figure out novel things to do with their hands, face, voice, mouth, legs... everything. And then they do it over and over again. We call this face his 'penguin face.' He sucks in the sides of his upper lip, which makes his mouth look like, well, a beak. A baby penguin beak. He always looks very serious and pensive when he does this... which cracks us up... which makes him smile and giggle... It's a most entertaining routine! Also in his vocal repetoire these days: screeching, saying "ma-ma-ma-ma" and "ba-ba-ba-ba" and just plain "Oooh."

A funny aside: the one movie we've managed to see during the past 6 months was March of the Penguins. During that movie, I kept poking Christian and saying, "Look! The baby penguin looks just like Ronan!" And he would humor me and say, "Hon, everything looks like Ronan to you." But now, a few weeks later, look! Our son looks just like the baby penguin.
