View of Mt. Lassen from the deck of the cabin
We took the Ronan up to our cabin in Lake Almanor, facing Mt. Lassen, for Memorial Day weekend. It was his 4th or 5th time up there, but the first time as a mobile little man so we had much more to look out for! Of course the cabin is not child-proofed. Splinters, bug bits, eating bugs, eating deer droppings, touching the wood stove, fingers in sockets... these were all very real possibilities! But luckily we made it through the weekend unscathed and with minimal ingestion of questionable items. :-)
Almanor was as beautiful as ever. Still remote, pristine, low-key. The water level of the lake was high for this season, and the mountain was covered in snow. The days were sunny and in the 60s and 70s; nights in the 30s. We went on a lovely walk along the western shore of the lake, got milkshakes at the Pine Shack in Chester, and, for the first time in a long time, cooked all our meals. The altitude (4500 ft?) must have made Ronan famished -- he ate a ton all weekend.

We lunched at Granzella's in the tiny town of Williams on the way up. Ronan snacked on canteloupe, while we had good ol' American comfort food.

Hiking (okay, we were just walking, but it was the closest we've come to hiking in a long, long time!) along the shore of Lake Almanor

Despite his somber look, he had a great time in the backpack, munching away on biscuits!

He loves playgrounds with tubes he can climb through. He's so fast, though, that we have to position ourselves on both ends to make sure he doesn't scramble right off the wooden structure!

Here I come, Dad!
