Pumpkin Carving and the "Big Bed"

We spent Sunday evening carving the pumpkins that we bought last weekend. It was the first year that Ronan took an interest in this activity and he was fascinated! He especially loved drawing on the outside of the pumpkin. Consequently, his pumpkin has a great deal of facial tattooing -- lots of black squiggles and lines amongst the cutouts of eyes, nose, and mouth!

The night before, Saturday, was a big occasion since that was the first night Ronan slept in his new "big bed" (courtesy of Bryan and Anna). He's been asking for his big bed for several weeks and we kept putting it off because of... well, laziness. On Saturday, we brought it up from the basement, put his sheets and blankets on it, and he slept like a lamb all night long. So far he hasn't fallen out, or woken up in the middle of the night wondering where his crib is, so we think this transition has been surprisingly easy. It's very sweet to see him curled up with his blankets, looking so much like a little boy and not a baby in a crib...

Along with the big boy transitions are a few endearing baby-oriented behaviors. Often, Ronan will want to be carried like an infant and pretend-fed his "bottle" and his "medicine." (This is amusing because he never loved his bottle and ditched it for the cup at 12 months old.) He also loves talking about how he came out of Mommy's tummy and Baby Brother will too. He thinks the baby will come straight out of my belly button! He picks out babies in magazines and absolutely croons over them, wanting to carry them home and take care of them. We're hoping this love for babies will last through his little brother's arrival in a few months. :-)














Here's Ronan playing policeman, one of his favorite pastimes.


He gets the big flashlight and shines it in our faces, saying "Police!" He's also big on badges and, for some reason, he thinks policemen wear big watches like Daddy.
