We spent Ronan's first weekend as a one-year-old with our friends Ariana and Erik and their daughters Annika and Ava in relaxing Murphys. Where, you say? Murphys, a charming little town in the Sierra foothills on the way to Yosemite! On the drive over, we passed a bunch of California towns we'd never heard of... Angels Camp... Copperopolis... It was fun to introduce Ronan to the non city life, where people wave to each other and you don't have to fight for the last tiny parking space in sight.
Ronan decided he didn't need to sleep. All weekend. No hour-long naps. No 12-hour night-time slumbers. Just a few fitful pseudo-naps with lots of crying and whining, poor baby! We think it was the foreign nap venue (the pack'n'play) and the fact that his molars are coming in - yikes. He finally got some z's sitting up, in pitch darkness, between us on the bed. Despite his and our general frazzled-ness, though, we still had a great time catching up with old friends and meeting brand-new Ava!
Today we took Ronan to his 12-month check-up, where he got 3 more shots and got measured again. He's 45th pct for weight (22 lbs) and 90th for height (31.5 in), our tall and lean Ronan machine. We can't believe he grew 10 INCHES in his very first year. That's like an almost 50% height increase!
Mom is off to DC tomorrow morning for the spring meeting, so Dad and Grandma will be holding down the fort.
