Changes

As many of you know, we've both been commuting two hours a day, in two different directions, for over 7 years. With one child, it was challenging (okay -- at times completely overwhelming!) to manage the preschool drop-offs, pick-ups, bridge traffic, and full-time careers, not to mention the fact that our small house was absolutely bursting with our growing family. With two kids, it suddenly became clear to us that we needed to move in order to keep our sanity.

Now it's no easy task to move EVER, but with a three-year-old and a newborn, it was especially hard to find the time and energy to pack up 10 years of belongings and memories. But pack we did, at times just chucking things into boxes without much organization. We also donated a lot of our stuff -- most to Goodwill and some to "the city of San Francisco" (meaning we left it out on the sidewalk and within hours it was gone). We Craigslisted a few items such as our thousand-pound TV. On Saturday, the movers came and took our things to... Palo Alto.

Why the peninsula? It was a hard decision, one we talked about for years. But in the end, it seemed like the right place to try. The public schools are great, we'd be close to Christian's job, I would have the ability to work mostly from home, we'd have a yard for the kids to play in... and the sun would actually shine so the kids wouldn't get rickets. All good things!

So it's been a very busy seven weeks, what with having a new baby and moving homes and transitioning Ronan to a new school. Enough changes for now. ;-)

The huge moving truck showed up at 9 am on Saturday. By 11 am, our house was empty and the truck was on its way to PA...

As we peered into the truck, we wondered, "How in the world did we accumulate so much stuff??!" We need a visit from the Minimalist Fairy.

Our empty living room. We'll miss the high ceilings and that beautiful natural light!

Last look at our home for the past 10 years. Will Ronan even remember that he spent three years here?

Our new home in Palo Alto, which we're renting for the next year. It's cute and cozy and so very, very residential! What a change from our urban SF digs.

Okay, now for some Callum pics! (7 weeks)

He started smiling and cooing a week ago. He's so adorable, we just want to eat him up.

Soaking up the warm Palo Alto sun. I don't think he misses the fog at all!

At almost 7 weeks, he still sleeps a huge part of the day and, lately, most of the night!
